Sierra Delaine is a Cleveland-based alt-soul artist, songwriter, and producer whose sound blends jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and soul into intimate, emotionally rich performances. Known for her soulful vocals and live looping, Sierra creates immersive sets that center connection, improvisation, and presence.

Over the past year she has performed across Cleveland at venues including the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Beachland Tavern, Globe Iron, and BOP Stop, while also serving as an Artist-in-Residence at the Rock Hall. Sierra is currently expanding her collaborative project Loop Sessions, an evolving performance and recording series highlighting Cleveland artists through experimentation, conversation, and live creation.

Before the album, there is the becoming.

For Sierra Delaine, The Essentials is more than her first EP. It is preparation. A creative rehearsal. A conscious decision to practice the part of artistry that many independent musicians quietly struggle with: release.

“This is me letting go,” she explains.

As she prepares for her upcoming album, Sierra wanted to strengthen the muscle of sharing before perfection. For years, she held her work close, refining and revising until it felt complete. But in an industry where streaming platforms often receive the most polished, fully funded versions of artists’ work only to profit while those same artists fight for stability, she began to question the system.

Why do platforms always get the finished product?
Why does the most perfected version leave the creator depleted?

Instead of carrying that pressure alone, Sierra decided to shift the model for herself.The Essentials is an experiment in relief, alleviating the stress of perfection by allowing the art to live before it is fully “done.” It is about sharing the collaborations, the moments, and the growth in real time. Not as a compromise, but as a choice.

And beneath that choice is something deeper: ownership.

“If I can get to a final version,” she reflects, “why shouldn’t I be the one who holds its power?”

As an independent artist, autonomy is both freedom and responsibility. It means creative control, but it also means financial risk, strategic planning, and emotional labor. With this EP, Sierra is reclaiming a piece of that balance. She is redefining what sustainability can look like by releasing intentionally rather than endlessly polishing in isolation.

The Essentials is not a retreat from excellence. It is a recalibration.

A reminder that power does not only live in perfection. It also lives in timing, in choice, and in the courage to share before the world demands it.

And as Sierra Delaine moves toward her full length album, she is not just preparing music.

She is preparing herself.
